"mdw13: rainy day, packed with excitement"

Hey Journal!

Well, today was a really rainy and crappy weather start to our three day weekend but despite the bad weather, we had an exciting, action-packed day of craziness!

We had plans to go to breakfast with Kristen and Don to see Norman Vincent at the bagel store. We woke up around 9:30 and got ready and picked up Kristen and Don and headed over there. We planned to ask him about playing at the Clambake at the golf course this year because I had called him twice and he never returned my messages!

When we arrived, he was just taking a break and Kristen and I were waiting for a table to open up. He came over and said Hi to us, and apologized for not calling back! He said he was so busy with "traveling back and forth to the city." (??Really?? How long does it take to pick up a phone and call someone back, especially when they are trying to HIRE you! AND, I emailed him and it takes like 5 seconds to reply to an e-mail!)

He said he wouldn't be able to make it on August 10th for the Clambake which... I don't REALLY care, but at the same time... he said next year I should give him a little more notice. Umm... THREE MONTHS isn't enough? Sorry. And if you're busy, that's fine... but don't be so sketchy about it! Anyway, I feel like the whole thing was totally awkward, though, luckily, I wasn't the one being awkward for once!

Anyway, we had our bagels and then we left and headed back towards home. It was such a rainy and dreary day and we were all very bummed out about the damper this would put on our Memorial Day Weekend fun! We were driving down Townline Road and saw a sign for an open house and Kristen suggested that we go to it!

So, we followed the signs and found the house! The house was really strange. It was a house that noone was currently living in and the floors were brand new, but there was something weird about it. It was kinda grody, and it looked like they were trying to hide some horrible defect. The basement was even weirder, and the whole house smelled damp. The bathroom upstairs looked like a spaceship and the bathroom downstairs had a weird soap dispenser on the wall that looked like it belonged in a hotel! The real estate agent who was there was hard of hearing, and she called Dan "Dave" and when I was introduced as "Brian" she thought he said "brother!" She was a mess.

When we left, we decided we should look up MORE open houses and go check them out! There weren't any more in Nesconset that were going on at that time so the next one we hit up was in Hauppauge. This one was pretty weird, too. The front walkway was littered with old blinds and construction crap and then inside was empty. Another abandoned property! It was okay on the ground floor but the upstairs was horrendous! The rooms, the carpets, the bathroom! Yikes!

Our next stop was in Smithtown near Meat Farms. It was the first house we had been to where someone was actually living in it! It was super-nice from the outside, and inside you could tell that the people had taken care of it. It was a nice house, but they had some really funky wall-to-wall carpeting. Usually I like wall-to-wall carpets, but this was just nuts! The downside of this house was that it smelled like smoke! Blah!

Next, we went to one in Smithtown just past the library. It was actually very close to the train tracks. This house was also empty. The real estate agent who was selling it was actually the owner of the house! The first thing that struck us was this INSANE picture montage of his family that was on the wall when we walked in! It was soooooo creepy and I actually wanted to make an offer on it. It woulda looked great in our place! LOL The whole house had a ton of crazy custom dark woodwork. It was kinda like an old historical home where they went all out with ornate wood carvings and stuff. The kitchen had a nice sunroom, that was the only nice thing about the place. The basement was funky and the doors were hard to open!

We continued the craziness and went to a house in Smithtown on Dan's parent's street! The house was also being lived in, and didn't smell bad, thankfully! It was a nice house, had a cool deck, and the real estate agents here were REALLY nice. I liked them a lot. They were really the only ones who weren't confused by our foursome! They had a Mets bedroom and I told Dan it would be perfect for him.

Our final stop of the day was a house in Kings Park. It was nice looking from the outside and had a really cool pool in the backyard. It was a cool shape, and it had a hot tub that had a little waterfall into the pool! Other than that, the house was terrible. The only good thing the real estate agent could say was that it was on the Kings Park sewer system! It had a weird three-step-up living room and the whole house was just so strangely laid out! The bedrooms were down a hall that was like a maze! The basement was enormous, but had sewage on the wall near the pipe that led out of the house. This was another abandoned house.

After that, we dropped Kristen and Don back off at home around 3:00 and Dan and I came home... had some lunch... and then went out to the gym!

The gym was good today, it was cold outside so that made it more bearable inside. I was able to do some 9.5mph spurts on the treadmill!

Gym Report:
50 Crunches at 50lbs
50 Pulldowns at 40lbs
1 mile on the Treadmill in 17mins
1 mile on the Treadmill in 10mins
2 miles on the EBike in 7mins

I think that I need to step it up with the pulldowns pretty soon. I feel like 40 lbs is good for me but I think it's a little wimpy! Ugh!

It was still raining when we left the gym, of course, so the day was a total washout! We got home and got showered up and then Dan wanted to watch a hockey game on TV and I went out with Re. Re picked me up and we went to Pep Boys because she needed a new headlight for her car. We went in,got the bulb, and I changed it for her in the parking lot! Woop!

We took a walk around the mall after that and then came back home. Kristen and Don met us here at 7:30 and we went out to dinner to Brownstone. We had a wait a little while for a table so we played some more Quickdraw! We had a few close calls, and ALMOST won our money back, but it didn't happen!

I got the shepherd's pie and also had a "Spiked Milk Shake!" It was good, but it was also a little bit expensive for what it was!

We had such a crazy time at dinner though... I don't know what got into us! We all were in such a wild mood! While we were eating, they put UFC on the TVs and while I can't understand why anyone would want to watch people beat the crap out of eachother like this on TV, or why anyone in their right mind would participate in it.... it was on every screen in the restaurant... so we had no choice but to see it. It was so gross, and the only one who was remotely good looking wound up getting his entire face beaten in and blood was everywhere. Wow.

When we left, we went back to Kristen and Don's the play some Cards Against Humanity! Re had had some Woodchuck Cider and she was feeling the effects so the was renamed "the woodchuck" for the rest of the night!

We played in the basement and we were out of control! We played 65 rounds, and surprisingly, for the first time, I WON! I won with 14, Don, Kristen, and Re had 13, and Dan had 12!

When we finally called it a night on the game, around 1:30am... we all realized that we were STARVING!! We decided to go to the diner to get some FOOD! We went to the Hauppauge Palace and it was surprisingly less crowded than I would have thought for 2am on a holiday weekend! lol

We ate and I wanted to take a picture to commemorate the evening and Don suggested a Panorama! We spun the camera around at the table and made a full circle! The picture came out really cool!! WOOO!

Alas, all good things must come to an end and we are home now, exhausted, and ready for BED! I have to say that for a day that was rainy, crappy, and freezing cold... we really managed to fill every minute and wound up having a great time!!

Now... hopefully the weather will get much nicer for the next two days! It doesn't feel much like the start of summer when you're wearing jeans and hoodies!!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
