"katy perry's vma performance" or "brooklyn adventure"

Hey Journal!

I know I'm almost a day late, but it was a crazy day yesterday and I was in a rush to get to bed last night when we got home!

I got up around 9:30 on Sunday morning and Dan slept for a while longer. I did some random stuff around the house, and then when Dan got up, we tried to figure out what our plan of action would be for the day.

We watched some TV and Dan went to take a shower to get ready. Unfortunately, the spout in the shower where the water comes out was having a problem! The little thing that you pull up in ordder to activate the shower head wasn't working right and most of the water was still coming out of the bottom! The actual shower head just had a little dribble! At that point, I didn't realize how bad it was, and Dan took his whole shower like that!

When I got in, I tried to fix it by wrapping a towel around the spout to force the water to go up instead! It worked a little. The water still came out of the bottom, but it gave just enough resistance to make the water come out of the top with a little more force!

We left here around 1:30 and headed to Brooklyn. On the way, we stopped at Home Depot to pick up the new "Diverter Spout" for the bathtub. That's the part that was broken. Aparantly, it's much easier to fix than I had imagined, and if I had known that, we could have replaced it years ago!

Anyway, we also stopped at Wedny's to get some food to hold us over!

We got to Brooklyn and parked the car down by the Governor's Island Ferry. We weren't really sure where the best place to park would be, but we knew we had found good street parking there before, and figured it would be better to walk a ltitle than to have the stress of driving around forever looking for a spot somewhere else!

First, we stopped at the bathroom at the park. It was really hard to find the men's room, and a bunch of other people were looking for it too. We finally found it, and there was a man ahead of us who was playing music out of his cell phone that was clipped to his belt. I don't know what song it was, but the guy said the singer was his cousin!

Since we had a lot of time to kill before we had to line up for the Katy Perry performance, we decided to walk to the Barclays Center to check out that area. I had actually been to Brooklyn before so I was nice to take a walk around, and I wanted to see the Barclays Center, and also see what was going on there for the VMAs. The whole area was pretty busy with people walking around and there were lots of areas closed off by the police.

We were thirsty, so we went to the Target across the street to get some water and also bought some Uncrustables to have later as a snack.

Arianna commented on one of my Instagram photos and said that she lived really close to the Barclays Center and so we met up with her for a drink! We met at a bar called the Duke of Montrose on 5th Ave. It was a cool place... I got a cranberry vodka and Dan got a beer. The first drink I had was REALLY strong! I started feeling it pretty quickly. I had a second one, too... but it wasn't quite as strong!

When we got there, one of Arianna's friends was there, and then later her friend Andrew came, and her boyfriend came, too.

We talked about Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, and things about Brooklyn. I also asked how their walk to Short Beach turned out on the night of the 4th of July! She said it was a little bit of a disaster because their cab dropped them off before the beach and they had to walk, and hide in the bushes from some police. She also said they really overcharged them for the cab, too!

We had a fun time... I'm glad we go to see her. We were there for about an hour and a half and then we had to get going around 6:30 to get to the Katy Perry performance by 7:30! We walked down Bergen Street all the way to where we had parked the car. It was a pretty nice walk... nice neighborhood and stuff.

We got to the car, changed our shirts, and got our tickets. Then we had to walk about another half-hour to get to Brooklyn Bridge Park to line up!

When we arrived, it was just about 7:30 and the line was crazy long! It started moving right away, so that was pretty good. The girls behind us were pretty nice, we talked to them a little as we made our way down the street, and then we bumped into them again later just before they let us go to the place where the show was going to be.

We got up to the gates and went through a security check. Then we waited on line to give our tickets and go through another security check. Then we were inside a really big brick building with no roof. Basically, it was four brick walls! So weird!

They gave out free Pepsi and Aquafina but we had to wait there for soooooo long! It was really annoying because nobody had any idea what was going on. There were about 10 big doors around the room and nobody knew where we were going to called to go. Every couple of minutes, people would run from one door to the other because they THOUGHT they knew, and everyone else would follow! It was completely ridiculous!!

A couple of times they tried to make an announcement, but nobody could hear anything they said! It was terrible. When they finally opened the door, everyone had to cram through this one little exit and it was such a crazy stampeed!

By about 9:30 we were finally in place! We were under the Brooklyn Bridge and right in front of the stage! They were getting things ready and polishing the giant golden lions they had on the stage!

At 9:45, Katy Perry arrived and she sang her song, Roar! It was the first public performance of her new song, and I have to say... I hadn't heard this song until yesterday afternoon... but I really really like it! I listened last night so I would know what to expect, and I loved it!

The only complaint about her performance was that it was kind low. Usually I'm the one who says they should turn the volume DOWN at a concert, but you couldn't really hear her voice well! It's probably because it was really just for TV and they didn't care about us. We were just props in their show!

After she sang, they re-set the stage and did it one more time! At least we got to see it twice!!

At about 10:15, it was all over, Katy Perry was gone, and we were on our way out!

To get back to the car, we walked through Brooklyn Bridge Park all along the water. It was a really beautiful night and it was such a nice view of the city!

The weather was perfect and I really enjoyed it! We passed by a really cool picnic area, too! There were tons of people out BBQing and stuff.... It's such a cool place to have a BBQ!

We finally got to Pier 6, which was near where we had parked.

We got home around 11:45 which was much earlier than I had anticipated. When we heard that Katy Perry's performance was going to be closing the show, I thought that we wouldn't get OUT until about 11:30, but it turned out that they recorded her part and just played it out later!

We stopped at Wendy's and got almost the exact same order that we had gotten for lunch! Ugh! But we were so hungry, and nothing else was open!

When we got home, we quickly watched the performance on TV and we actually were able to spot ourselves in the crowd! Unfortunately, it was just our backs, and it was very small! We only figured it out because we knew what we had been wearing and we knew where we were standing. Even if I pointed it out to anyone, they wouldn't be able to tell it was us!

I installed the new shower spout in a couple of minutes and then we took our showers! The shower is now working PERFECTLY, and I can't believe we didn't do this sooner!

We got to bed around 12:45am, and I didn't have to get up until 9am because Dan's dad asked me to pick him up for work at 9:45!

Anyway, that was the story of our crazy Sunday VMA trip to Brooklyn!! All-in-all, I had a really fun time, and even though it was a lot of work just to see one sonce, I think it was worth it, and it was an adventure!

Adios for now. :)
