"our first curling game" or "broomstacking" or "the truck"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up around 10:00 and we watched TV for a bit before heading out to get some breakfast at Boulevard Bagels. We called our order in, but when we arrived, there wasn't any line at all! That's a pretty big change from the usual Saturday morning crowd!

Next we went to say Hi to my Mom, Grandma, and Grandpa, and to drop off some things that my mom is going to keep for us while we're in housing transition!

We had to get some plastic tubs from Target for packing, but on the way there we stopped at the Stop and Shop to pick up Dan's brother from work. While we were pulling out of the parking lot, there was a man with a crazy long white beard, and he looked a bit disheveled and old fashioned. Dan was convinced he was Walt Whitman.

At Target we got two plastic bins... a large one, and a small one. The large one will be for clothes and the smaller one for bathroom stuff.

On the way back, we stopped at Dan's parents' house to make some changes to get things ready for our move-in! We went into Dan's old bedroom upstairs and really reorganized all of our belongings that had been stored in there. Once we had everything in order up there, we brought some things into the room that had been stored in the bedroom downstairs. There was a chair, a table, and some other random furniture.

We got home around 4:00 and then we did a few things around the house before leaving at 5:10 to go pick Re up for curling!! Woop!

We got to Re around 5:30 and we planned to go out to dinner. Before that, however, we needed to swing by the golf course to pick up the big dump truck for the big move tomorrow! We're going to use it to transport the furniture and other heavy items to the storage facility, and over to Dan's parents' house.

Once we got the truck, I just moved it to the parking lot so that I could easily pick it up later. For dinner, we went to Houlihan's in Farmingdale. There was a little bit of a wait, but we had called ahead so it wasn't too bad.

After we had finished dinner, we still had some time to kill before curling. Curling usually starts at 9:30, but as beginners, we were instructed to come at 9 this week. We went to Target in Westbury and perused the Christmas items, and then we headed off!

We played our first REAL game tonight, and it was very wild! We started out pretty strong... in fact, in the second end, we scored FIVE POINTS! That's pretty impressive, actually! Unfortunately, we didn't win! We lost 12-7.

I think we'll definitely improve as the season goes on, In fact, I can already see improvement! Dan had a great throw tonight... he landed DIRECTLY on the button! Re has really good aim, also. We decided that each week, we are going to change our positions so that we can see who is best in which areas.

Tonight, someone fell twice on the ice. The first time, the whole place got quiet and everyone looked to see what had happened. The second time, nobody really cared. I tend to think that the girl who fell tonight was running strangely on the ice. She picked her feet up pretty high instead of just sliding around. However, even though that may have made her more likely to fall... I'm still really scared of getting hurt on the ice.

Joe is the only one there who wears a helmet, but it really seems like a good idea. You don't want to take any chances!

As I mentioned, we didn't win... Mark T's team won. His team had TWO good, serious players on it, so I feel good that we held actually did well!

After curling was over, we went to the bar for Broomstacking which is the social part of the sport! It's customary to go out afterwards and hang out with your fellow curlers and for the winners to buy drinks for the losing team!

We had a fun time... we talked a lot to Joe, who I would have to say is the nicest person in the club! We also talked to Kevin who was on the opposing team tonight. He was the only one from his team to come to the bar. He insisted on buying us all drinks, even though we had already gotten ourselves a round! It was really fun! I'm glad we went!

We left the bar around 1:30 and headed home. Normally it wouldn't have been a big deal that we were out so late, but we had to go pick up the truck from the golf course and have to get up early tomorrow for the big move!

When we got the truck, I was so nervous. I've never driven a truck at all before and not being able to see anything out of the rearview mirror or the side mirrors was very nerve wracking! I'm really glad that I got to drive it home at night, though, because there were no cars on the road and I was able to get a good feel for it before tomorrow's adventure!

Now, we're home and we have to get to bed as soon as possible! Ah! I can't believe it's so late!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
