"cold spring" or "fdr's house"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up at 10:15 and prepared for our trip upstate today! We had to bring my Grandma to Aunt Chickie's house for a wedding shower, and since we weren't attending the shower, we planned to do some fun stuff nearby!

My mom drove everyone over here and they arrived at 11:00. We rearranged the seating chart and then we hit the road. We made really good time and there was only a very small amount of traffic near the Throgs Neck Bridge. My mom brought bagels, so I ate my breakfast in the car.

We got to Aunt Chickie's house around 12:50 and the shower was scheduled to start at 1:00! Aunt Chickie came running out and greeted us in the driveway! We said Hi to everyone, and then quickly got back in the car to head off on our adventure for the day!

Dan and I really wanted to go to the FDR Home and Presidential Library in Poughkeepsie, but it was a 40 minute drive. My mom wasn't sure if we should go, but we decided to go for it! We hit a lot of lights on the way there, so it took a little longer than expected, but we made it there around 1:55. We went inside and got tickets, and we had such great luck with the timing because the tour of the house started at 2. If we had missed it, we wouldn't have been able to wait till the next one, and we would have missed out!

So, we hopped right on the tour. I had no idea they had SOOO much property upstate! They had a huge area of land with lots of different houses on it. The house was really cool. Our Park Ranger tour guide was named Cooper Leatherwood! What a cool name.

I took lots of pictures inside the house.... we started on the first floor and then made our way up to see the bedrooms. We weren't allowed on the third floor, and we had to exit down a stairway that led to the back of the house.

Next, we saw where FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt were buried, and then headed to the library. The library was really cool. It was a big museum and had a TON of interesting stuff. The exhibits were really cool, well made, interesting, and much better than I had expected they would be.

We had to move quickly, though, because we knew my Grandma would want us to come back soon.... so we couldn't peruse everything as thoroughly as we would have otherwise.

As soon as we finished with that, we hit the road on the way back. We stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch! I got the chicken and dumplings and it was quite amazing. You know, they've changed things now.... they ask you if you want biscuits or cornbread with each meal, and they don't just bring a plate for the table. Interesting.

After lunch, we went back to Aunt Chickie's house. We got there at 5:30 and went inside, and hung out for a little bit. I felt bad that we didn't get to spend much time with Aunt Chickie, but we do wanna make a trip up to visit her this summer!!

Grandma was in a rush to leave, so we were in the car and on the road again around 6:05. We made good time, and arrived home at 7:30. I fell asleep for a little bit of the car ride... I was exhausted!

We watched an episode of Game of Thrones and then I took a shower. After that, we tried to watch another episode, but HBO Go was down! The season premier of GOT was on tonight so it was overloaded and we couldn't watch any more! Blah!

We watched tonight episode of Once Upon a Time, and now it's time for bed! I can't believe it's back to work tomorrow...

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
