"getting our licks" or "memorial day"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up at 7:30 which was a little early, but it was when Fred had to leave for work! He woke us up and we said goodbye to him! Then we started cleaning up our stuff, getting ready, and packing up.

We hit the road around 9:00 and we made our way over the bridge and out of the city. Once we were out, we wanted to find a supermarket and a Tim Hortons. I wanted to get some more Five Alive and we wanted breakfast. Conveniently, we wound up in a shopping center with both!

They didn't have any bottled Five Alive, but had gotten cans at Target yesterday and today I got juice boxes. I had one in the car and it was amazing, so I kinda wish I had gotten even more! It's so upsetting that you can't get them in the US anymore... it makes no sense... it's such a yummy drink!

Anyway, next we went to Tim Horton's and got our breakfast. We ate pretty quickly and then we were back on the road.

We were really surprised because there was no backup at the border AGAIN! Both ways, we only had two cars in front of us! We were really lucky. The guy asked us where we had been and how long we were from home. Dan misinterpreted his question, though, and thought he asked how long we had been away from home! The guy's last name was McDonald, so he and Re shared a moment about that!

After passing through the endless forest, we made a stop near Lake George at Martha's Dandee Creme! You may remember last summer when we went to Niagara Falls with Lau and Re and Lau wore her "I get my licks at Martha's" t-shirt... well, when we saw the sign for Lake George on the way to Montreal, I suggested that we stop on the way back and get another shirt for Lau! Unfortunately, they didn't have any shirts we liked, but we did get her a little surprise for her birthday. (Now, if Lau is reading this, which there is a slight chance that she is... I'm really sorry for ruining the surprise!!)

The place was cool, though.... I loved the sign with the giant chicken on it! Amazing. We each got ice cream, and I was shocked to find that Re had abandoned her "no chocolate" rule and let herself go wild. I must say, my ice cream was REALLY good, and it was reasonably priced, too... unlike Carvel!

After we ate our ice cream, we went around the back to use the bathroom. It was ridiculous because there was such confusion surrounding the bathroom. When I got there, it was empty and nobody else was around. I went in, and apparently some people come to use it, and were so confused that the door was locked. Re tried to explain that someone was in there, but they didn't really get it. (What's not to get?!) And then, when Re was in there, more people came and were confused! What a mess! lol

The ride went pretty fast and we only made one more stop on the way home. We went to a rest stop to get some gas and I went inside to use the bathroom.

We made excellent time and only ran into a little bit of traffic near Newburgh. We had to take an alternate route, and crossed the Hudson a little north of the Tappan Zee Bridge. It was a good move because we avoided the worst of the traffic.

We dropped Re off around 4:30 which made our total travel time about 7.5 hours including our stops for breakfast, Martha's, and gas.

When we got home, we were pretty exhausted and we just relaxed and watched some TV. We got settled in, and then at 9:00 we watched 24! It's getting good... Ahhh!

Anyway, now we're off to bed! Unfortunately, I have to get up early for work.... I wish I had another day off!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
