"old vegas" or "mojave desert & red rock canyon"

Hey Journal!

Wow...Today has been a really long day! So long that it's not even "today" anymore....

So let me start with Saturday morning... and I'll try to make sense of everything we've done in the past 24+ hours! At about 9:00am PST, we woke up in our hotel room and got ready for the day, and to leave the room. We packed up, made sure we hadn't forgotten anything in the room, and then around 10:00, we headed out of the hotel!

Re and I went down to the car to put the suitcases in and Dan went to get a free coffee at one of the restaurants in the hotel. Then we hit the road! We said goodbye to the Palazzo and the strip and went to check out Freemont Street and "old Vegas!"

On the way there, some people on the side of the road told us that we had a flat tire! Indeed, our right front tire was super-low, so we stopped at the first gas station we passed and filled it up. When we had taken the car, the warning light for low tire pressure was on. After we refilled it, the light went off and we were fine for the rest of the trip.

Next, we stopped at the Gold and Silver Pawn Store... the home of Pawn Stars! It was pretty cool being there again, and even though we had gone last time we were in Vegas, this time I made sure to get a lot of pictures. Re was surprised at home much less glamorous it was it real life!

Speaking of things that are less glamorous.... we made our way to Old Vegas next. It was a dump! The old casinos were really seedy and there wasn't all that much to do there. We parked at a place called Binions and played some Jackpot Party there! Dan was up $8 after that.

We took a quick walk down Fremont Street but realized there wasn't much of anything worth doing there... so we decided to get some food! We had a lot of time to kill between then and our flight so we were able to relax and take our time with everything.

Re suggested that we find a Macaroni Grill for lunch, and there was one not far away. We ate there... and got these really great appetizers. Mmmmm. I couldn't finish all my chicken parm... and sadly I couldn't take it with me!

After lunch we had no idea what to do, but I looked online and found that the Mojave Desert and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was only about 30 minutes away. It looked pretty cool, so we went. I'm REALLY glad we did it... it was a totally unplanned thing, but turned out to be really fun. We got some great pictures of the rocks/mountains as we drove the 13 mile trail.

At one stop, I got out to take a picture and three or four girls got out to take a photo also. They started talking to me because Dan and Re didn't get out of the car! They were making fun of them for it, actually! They were really nice, and took a photo of me... and I took one of them!

When we finished the trail, we drove a little further down the road to some secluded "ranch" town, but there wasn't anything to do there, so we headed back to Las Vegas. We went to a casino called Red Rock Casino and Re got some ice cream.

Next, we went to an outdoor mall. The mall was nice, but it was really hot outside so we didn't stay very long.

Our last stop of the day was back at the Green Valley Ranch. We wanted to get dinner at a buffet there. Before that, we walked around and checked out the pool and then rested for a little while on the giant bed-like loungers. It was such a beautiful day!

We had to wait over 45 minutes on line for the buffet, but it wasn't terrible. We had nothing else to do, and the timing worked out perfectly. The buffet was really good! We finished around 8:15 and then we went back to the car, and headed for the airport!

We stopped to get Gas in the car on the way and then went to return the rental car. Then we took the shuttle to the airport, checked in for the flight, and went through security. It wasn't busy at all... no long lines!

The flight didn't leave until 11:00, so we had time to kill. We sat in the airport and just charged our phones.

The flight home was pretty terrible, though. We were on a newer JetBlue plane with really nice TV screens... the only problem was that OUR ROW was the only row on the entire plane where the TVs didn't work at all! Can you believe that!? Lucky us....

Once the plane was in the air, we asked the flight attendant about it. She said they were broken and there was nothing she could do. Understandably, it's not something she has control over, but the way they handled the situation after that was totally unacceptable. I asked for a pillow because, now that I couldn't watch TV... I planned to sleep instead. She wouldn't give me one, and was a ripe little bitch about it.

I wound up tweeting JetBlue and got a response from their social media people. He was nice, and said I should ask the flight crew for a pillow... but as I explained to him... I had already done it, and was denied. She was such a snotty woman, and I can not wait to compose a letter of complaint tomorrow.

The flight was long and annoying. We landed at about 7:45 EST, and I only managed to get a little bit of sleep on the way!

We collected our luggage, and then Dan's dad picked us up. It was so strange because it didn't feel like it should have been so early in the morning, and everything I've done so far today seems like it's all part of yesterday!!

Anyway, it's been a LOOOONG DAY, and now that we're finally home, I started washing all of the laundry we have from the trip, we're watching a couple of episodes of Scandal, and then going to take a nap!!

I'll be back later with more.....

Adios for now. :)
