"curling picnic" or "survey says..."

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up at 9:00 and wanted to fit in an episode of Scandal before we headed out to the big curling picnic! We actually managed to fit in TWO episodes, and then we had to get ready.

We got our stuff together, and off we went. It was in Glen Cove and it was pretty far to get there! I don't think I've ever been that far north in that little area before. We found the park, and Re was arriving just as we were. We helped her carry some of the provisions, but we didn't know where we were going!

It turns out that our area, the area with the picnic benches and the grills was ALL THE WAY in the farthest corner of the park, up on a big hill! Yikes! We made our way there, and then started to set up. We had to go back to the car to get a few more things, and when we got there, Linda was just arriving. We walked back and Linda took her car up. They weren't really letting cars in, but they somehow sweet-talked to guard guy into letting us in.

The picnic was fun... I had some hamburgers and cupcakes and we played some games and just hung out for a while. The turnout was a little disappointing because of approximately 200 members, only 25 people showed up and that included Linda's kids and a couple of non club members!!

One of our favorite Connor quotes of the day was when he got mad at Cameron for not doing something he wanted, and he yelled "YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO YOUR ELDER!"

When we left the picnic, we headed to our new house to see if the surveyor was there. I hadn't gotten an e-mail back from him to let me know exactly when he was going, but he had said "in the evening," and we were hoping to catch him.

We pulled up, and we could see the back gate was open, and there was a man measuring something on the street! We had excellent timing! They had arrived just a little before us, and it was nice to put a face to the voice I had been talking to on the phone!

The guy was really nice. He kinda reminded me of a cross between Doc Brown from Back to the Future and MFG from the curling club!

His wife was in the car and she talked to us for a while, too! She said they had been at a regatta that evening, but left early.... before the barbecue... to come do the surveying! (A little guilt trip!) She also told us that she was "so excited" for us about 20 to 30 times in our short conversation! She was really nice, though, and seemed genuinely happy for us.

He did all of his surveying, and was there about two hours...I'd say. He told me he had already started to draw the shape of the property last night, and had to go "do the math" with the numbers he had collected today.

Again, he said he'd have everything ready for us on Monday, and I am just soooo excited about that because now there SHOULDN'T be anything in our way! (And on the chance that we do need something else, at least this will be out of the way and we can get to the next step even quicker!)

Seriously... if it was up to the people that it's supposed to be up to... (the bank and the lawyer's office) this process would take months! If we went something done fast, we need to take control and make it happen! It's the honest truth, and I don't know how people can deal with this process without going absolutely crazy!

As we were leaving.... the surveyor asked his wife if she wanted to go out for Japanese food. She did, and in all seriousness, they asked us if we would like to come, too. We politely declined, and headed home.

When we got back, we watched a few more episodes of Scandal, had a TV dinner, took a shower, (not in that order) and now we're ready for bed!

Tomorrow we have to drive my Grandma upstate for a shower she's going to, so I'd better get to sleep!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
