"weekend adventure in pennsylvania" or "two bedroom suite"

Hey Journal!

Sorry I wasn't able to write an entry last night... we were away and I didn't bring the iPad! Even if I had... I don't really think I would have been able to find time.... It was such a long and full day that I was EXHAUSTED when we finally got to sleep!

Let me start at the beginning though.... We got up yesterday morning at 8:45. We figured that would be enough time to finish packing and get set to leave at 9:30. We planned to meet Linda at her house at 10, and then head for Pennsylvania!

We wound up leaving a little later than we had planned, and we had to stop at the bagel place to pick up breakfast. While Dan was inside getting bagels, I got the call that our alarm was going off AGAIN! REALLY? They had called the police again... and so Dan and I got our food and then hurried home. Of course, there was no problem. The basement motion detector went off again. We decided to bypass it while we were gone, but we didn't like the idea of not having the basement alarmed, so I opened up one of the new door contacts I bought and put it on the other basement door to give us another layer of protection!

After that fiasco, we wound up leaving here a few minutes before 10! We got to then around 10:35, and then we loaded up the cars and hit the road!

Connor and Cameron came with me and Dan, and Linda and Dan went in the other car! We were saying that it would be nice if we had a big car that we could all fit into! Sadly, we don't.

On the way, Dan and I had to stop for gas since we were pretty low. We had planned to stop at the first rest stop on the Jersey Turnpike... but we missed it because Dan got a phone call from the guy who used to do the landscaping for our house! He was basically saying he was sorry we didn't use it, and that he hoped the new people did a good job. Okay, whatever... if your prices weren't absurd we'd still be using you.

Anyway, we had some interesting conversations in the car. Here are some of the best. First, Dan was asking Cameron about her teachers in school. She said she had three, so we asked about each one. Then Dan asked which was the prettiest, the nicest, the funniest, the tallest, etc. Then, Connor chimes in with "Which one is the ugliest?" and then while discussing the other kids in her class, Connor asks, "Which one is the derpiest?" Cameron let know, "nobody is derpy in MY class!" (That being said, she did say there's a Spanish boy who cries all the time because he misses his mommy and nobody likes him.)

Then, completely out of nowhere, Connor says, "I have a really great idea!" So Dan and I say, "Ok, what is it?" "I think you should get two separate gifts since you're two separate people." "for what?" "My Birthday!" Of course!

So back to the gas... Since we missed the rest stop, we got off at an exit in New Jersey to find a gas station. On the way, we located a nearby Sonic, and decided to go there for lunch! We got there about 5 minutes before Linda and Dan.

We were there for about 45 minutes, ate our lunch, and then continued the journey! Our next stop was the farm/corn maze!

When we arrived, we found a parking spot, and the weather was good... no rain! The ground wasn't wet, either.... the only thing was that it was REALLY windy! It wasn't cold out, but the wind made it really chilly. Luckily it died down a lot and it wasn't bad for most of the time we were there.

We bought our tickets and then we headed to the maze. The maze was big, and the corn was MUCH taller than the corn by us. Usually we can either see OVER or THROUGH the corn, and that's pretty lame. Sadly, it wasn't that hard of a maze, though. My dream is to go to a corn maze that you can ACTUALLY get lost in and that it takes you over an hour to get through. I want it to be a REAL challenge. This wasn't it, but it was still fun. (I had done my research, too... I looked up reviews and everything. Oh well, maybe next year!)

After that, we enjoyed the rest of the fall festival! We shot the "Apple Cannon" and I actually hit the sign and knocked it off the fence! Amazing!! Then we had some snacks inside and watched a man using a really cool machine to peel and core apples.

Then Connor and Cameron played on the play area, and then we went for a hayride. The only problem with the hayride was that there was no hay! WHAT? I remember when we were little we would go on hayrides at Yaphank farm and you'd sit on big bales of hay....with hay all over the place... and when you'd pass another tractor going by, everyone would throw the hay at eachother! It was amazing!! This one was fun.. and we made our way around the big farm... I just feel that the hay would have enhanced the experience!

Around 5 we decided to leave the farm but before we did, we did a little investigation into hotels. The best price we could find was at a Homewood Suites. It got great reviews on TripAdvisor, also...so we were convinced. When I started to make the reservation... it gave me the option of a two bedroom suite, and we quickly discussed and decided it would be the best option. I booked it, and then we departed.

Before heading to the hotel, we had a couple of stops to make. First we went to Premise Maid. Yup... That CRAZY chocolate place that we had gone to years ago. They have strange dolls that remind me of the old Baskin Robbins that was in the mall. We weren't there long... just checked out the place and headed out.

Next stop..... Wegmans! We had to get some drinks for later in the evening, and I wanted to stock up on my Wegmans supplies. I love Robert B. Wegman! We were there for a while doing all our shopping, and Dan and Dan took a while to make their beer selections.

When we were done, we made our way to the hotel. It was conveniently located, and we were super-surprised at how amazing the hotel and our room was. The hotel was beautiful. The lobby was really fancy, the place looked really new and modern, and our room was better than I had expected.

When you walked in, there was a big living room area with a couch, a couple of arm chairs, some tables, and then a full kitchen. Then, on each side of the room was a bedroom with its own bathroom. The decor was nice, the rooms were GREAT! We all said it was very luxurious!!

We brought all of our belongings into the hotel and then we set out for dinner! We went to Allentown Brew Works! It was a cool place. We found a parking spot on the street very close to the restaurant, and Linda and Dan had to circle a couple of times but eventually got a parking spot directly in front of the restaurant.

Dinner was good... I got pork loin with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Dan got a philly cheesesteak, and much to my surprise, I really like liked it. (He told me to try a bite!) I wound up eating about 1/4 of it and felt bad, but Dan insisted.

Connor got rice with his meal but it was hard as a rock. It was like it hadn't even been cooked at all! :P He traded it in for applesauce.

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel and had some drinks. We had our first drink in the hotel lobby. We figured we'd be cool like that! It was fun. We sat on the big couches and watched a trivia game with the people from Pawn Stars on it.

After that, we headed up to the room and made some popcorn for a snack. Linda also bought pepperoni and cheese at Wegmans, so there was that, too!

I took a quick shower and put on my PJs and we all hung out till about 12:30! Connor was the first to go to sleep and he was out in a few minutes. He was mad that everyone was talking, so we all just went to bed, too! We were tired anyway, and wanted to get to sleep so we could get up early for the free continental breakfast! Mmmm.

Connor and Cameron slept on the pull out sofa bed. It was actually comfortable when I layed on it for a bit.

Anyway, we had a REALLY fun day and everything worked out super perfectly. We got to get away for the weekend, go have some fall fun, do a corn maze, had a nice dinner, AND stayed in a cool hotel! I think the two bedroom suite really made it... it was fun being in the same room, but having our own spaces. That kind of room would actually make a nice apartment!

So, that we our Saturday! As you know we're back home now, but I kinda have a headache and need to regroup. I'll be back a little later with another update to fill you in on today's events and the rest of our adventure!

Adios for now. :)
