"undecorating" or "goodbye, tree."

Hey Journal!

This morning I got up around 9:30 which was 5 minutes before my alarm was set to go off. I got out of bed and started to get ready for breakfast.

At 10:00, Shawn and Caitlin arrived and we gave them the grand tour of our house! Believe it or not, this is the first time they've been here! They weren't able to make it to the housewarming party or to some other gathering we had since then.

At 10:45 we headed over to Relish for breakfast. They told us the wait would be 15 minutes but it was more like 40! It was ridiculous.

I had the egg special and it was most enjoyable. We had a fun time and we also decided that we are going to go to the city to do something called "Escape the Room" which is supposed to be a really fun and really cool puzzle challenge thing!

We finished up a little before 12:30 and Shawn and Caitlin had to run because Caitlin had work at 1!

We headed home to tackle our Christmas decorations. As sad as it was to take everything down it was nice to get everything organized and cleaned up.

We took up all the empty boxes from the basement and started by putting away the things that had their own boxes. Then we opened up the tubs and figured out where everything was supposed to go. It was a little hard remembering how everything had been packed up but I was really impressed with our skills. We did a good job.

We undecorated the tree, which was sad, but it was time. Not only because it's pretty far after Christmas now, but also because every time we touched the tree a ton of needles fell! It was so bad! They were all over the place. After we got the ornaments off and boxed up, we took off the lights. We had a little trouble finding the end of the light strand at first, but once we found it we were on a roll.

We had purchased a tree bag in Target so we put it over the top, then unscrewed the tree from the base. We laid it down, tied up the bag, and then Dan carried it out to the curb. It was INSANE... the bag was FULL of needles sagging at the bottom.... it's just a lot better than them being all over the floor! As it was, we had a huge pile of needles to sweep up.

Once the tree was at the curb we put the rug back in the living room and started setting things up the way they were before. We decided to leave the couch on the other side of the room because even though it blocks the fireplace, it makes the room so much more open.

I made some Mac and Cheese for dinner.... my mom had gotten us two boxes for the Snow Queen gift, so we made both. When we were done with that, Dan went to the gym and I cleaned up a little around the house. I vaccuumed up any remaining pine needles and then vaccuumed the rug in the family room.

I watched some TV, and then when Dan got home he got showered up and we went to pick up Kristen for dinner. We picked her up at 7:00 and then headed to the Cheesecake Factory!

When we arrived they said there would be a 15 minute wait and the restaurant wasn't even crowded. We waited patiently, but I think it was more like 25 minutes!

She filled us in on all the latest happenings while we waited for our food. Mine came later than everyone else's. The manager came over to explain that the pasta cook had put the WRONG pasta on my plate! What a tragedy.

After we ate, we had a complimentary piece of cheesecake that we split three ways. (We had a coupon from buying a gift card in December!) 1/3 of a piece of cheesecake was MORE than enough for me! We all agreed that it would be absurd to eat the full thing by yourself!

When we were done we dropped Kristen off, headed home, and then I got showered up.

Now we just finished watching Galavant and we're off to bed!
