"ebenalp" or "schwalbennest"

5/18/15 11:05pm CEST

Hey Journal!

This morning we got an early start! We had set our alarms for 8:00am but woke up on our own at about 7:30.

We quickly got ready and then headed down to the Mirabelleplatz to take more Sound of Music photos! It was perfect... Nobody was around and it was completely quiet. I redid my step picture, then we went and got a selfie with a troll. We took photos walking around the fountain and then we got one running under the ivy terrace thing! That one took the most time because seconds before we went in, some woman went in and crouched down and started putting on a clown costume. When she was done with that, she took her time putting on clown makeup, too! It was unreal!

We got great photos and then headed back to the hotel.

We got our suitcases and then checked out. We had to pay for parking but the girl at the desk tried to charge us again for our room! We had booked on Hotel Tonight so we knew we didn't have to pay. She finally figured it out and we were on our way.

We stopped at a McDonald's for breakfast. Thy have so many crazy items on the menu that we don't! I got these little mini circular pancake like things that had little bubbles of syrup inside!

Next, we walked around an outlet mall that was right across the street. It wasn't that exciting, though!

We hit the road for Switzerland! We had to basically drive back through Munich to get there. On the way we stopped at Kaufland to get more food and water. We picked up another roll of those amazing cookies and also got orange juice, water, and Nestea!

The water here all tastes weird... I don't know what it is but its not like Poland Spring at all!

It was a beautiful day out today! It was about 77 degrees and sunny as could be. A complete contrast to yesterday! I loved it!

We crossed over the border into Austria for a little while so my cell phone service was restored again! I checked out a couple of things we needed to see.

Once we got to Switzerland we stopped at a bank to exchange our Euros for Swiss Franks, or as the woman kept saying "Schweitzer Franken!" We stopped at a regular bank and the teller was really nice but spoke no English at all!

We figured out how to convey what we wanted to do and she converted the currency us.

We drove through some crazy mountains and at about 3:45pm CEST we arrived at Wasserauen! There, we parked the car and packed our backpacks with the stuff we needed for the night.

To get to the top of the mountain, Ebanalp, we had to take a cable car! I had never ridden in a cable car before so this was quite an experience. It was a really smooth ride and it was really cool!

At the top, there were a bunch of people parachuting down! I think all the other people who went up with us went down that way!

We had to take a 15 minute walk down to the hotel- the Berggasthaus Ă„escher! It was a pretty steep walk down and all I could think about is how crazy it's going to be to get back up tomorrow! It's supposed to be raining all morning so that's no fun!

We had to go through a cave and eventually we arrived! It's so wild... There were random ponies milling around and it was such a surreal place! You're surrounded by mountains and the view is amazing! It doesn't make sense that it's even a real place!

When we got in, the woman there showed us to the "schwalbennest" and we put our stuff down and went for a walk! It was cooler at the top of the mountain than it had been down below but I was still sweating!

We took some photos and then when we got back we ordered dinner. I got the beef goulash and Dan got sausage. All of the food was kinda expensive up there!

After dinner it got really cold outside as the sun went down so we, and everyone else, moved inside!

Dan tried some local beers and I couldn't drink anything because they had no vodka. Lesson learned on this trip- Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have lots of beer but mixed drinks do not exist!

We talked to some random Canadian girls who were also staying at the hotel. They were really nice and we also spoke to two women l, one from Canada and one from the US. We hung out for a while and then at about 11:00, we decided to call it a night!

Before bed, Dan and I went outside to see the stars. You could just barely make out the outline of the mountains... It was soon dark!

Now we are in the schwalbennest and ready for sleep! Tomorrow we have to get up and out early to take the cable car down and get to the airport for our flight to London!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
