"backwash and de all day long"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up around 9:00 and went outside to get in another filter cleaning session. The pool was looking a little better but it was still very very green. We cleaned everything out and then got ready to go out to breakfast.

Kristen picked us up at 10:00 and we headed to Relish. They said that the wait was only about 20 minutes but I think we waited closer to 40! Breakfast was good, as always. I got the egg special and we had an enjoyable morning.

After we were done with that, we came home and took a water sample of our pool. We also backwashed again and Dan added more DE. Kristen accompanied us on our journey and has gotten sucked into the mission of getting this pool clean! We all went to Leslie's in Smithtown to get the water checked again!

As soon as we walked in, Brandon, Jim, and the other guy with a J name recognized us right away. One of them said, "Three days in a row!?" We're becoming regulars there! It's okay... they're all really nice! This time we came to the conclusion that we needed algaecide. Brandon gave us the goods and told us to "use the whole damn bottle." I liked his advice.

Next, we went to 7-11 because it was a beautiful day out and a beautiful day for a Slurpee! It was my first of the season. I was super-excited because they had lemonade Slurpees but then Dan told me to try this Mountain Dew one that was fruit punch flavored. I loved it! It really was just what I needed today!

When we got home, we got right to work. We backwashed the filter one more time and then it was time for the fun to begin. Dan used the brush to mix up all the green stuff and then he added the "whole damn bottle" of algaecide. Kristen and I sat on the sidelines in the shade and took in all the excitement. I wanted to see some quick results, and more than that, I wanted some proof that the algaecide was working. I wish it made the water change color or made the alge bubble or something. That would have been ideal!

We hung out for a while and sat by the green pool. Then, when Kristen left, we headed inside. All day long we kept going out to backwash and add more DE. The filter kept getting clogged so we needed to keep it going.

Later on, we went to Leslie's in Commack because we had to return something we had gotten a few days ago. This is like our new favorite store. You know how we went to Home Depot almost every day for the longest time when we first moved in.... well, that's how we are now with Leslie's!

We went over to Target after that and got some soap for the upstairs bathroom and then we went to Home Depot to get something to get a few things. We got Preen to keep the weeds out of our flower beds and we got hooks for our towels in the bathroom.

When we got home, we did more backwashing and then we installed the new towel holders. They're great and much better than our previous system. Dan was hanging his towels on an old picture hook and I was hanging mine over the banister in the hallway!

Dan packed up for his trip tomorrow....he's going to San Diego for work for a week. Then we got Domino's for dinner and watched 500 Questions and Reba while we ate.

We just watched tonight's Game of Thrones episode and now it's time for bed! Dan's leaving bright and early to go to the airport!
