"dinner and drinking with alec"

Hey Journal!

This morning, as there's never a dull moment at work, I got to work to find out that there was a potentially-rabid and sickly raccoon out on the golf course. I had to call the down Animal Control department and after some time on hold, they said they would send someone over to take care of the situation.

The came about an hour later and they drove out on the course the find the raccoon. He was there, but tried to make a getaway when the officer arrived. The guy lassoed him and put him in one of those carrier crate things. He was hissing and was really gross looking.

After that, I thought that the rest of the day was going to be pretty uneventful but then we got a report that a member was in the bathroom upstairs and had been there for over an hour! He had flushed the toilet at least 12 times, as it was reported, and the smell was so bad that nobody else could even go inside. So bad that they couldn't BEAR to open the door and that the smell was seeping out into the restaurant.

We contemplated what to do and also what could possibly have been causing such a rancid odor. I did not go upstairs but eventually the situation remedied itself. He emerged and the cleaning lady went in with her plunger and gloves on but, much to everyone's surprise, she reported that there was no mess to clean up. It was all spotless! Very weird. The smell went away very quickly, we were told.

What a weird day. The rest of the day I had random stuff to work on and just kinda passed the day and waited to go home. Steve was out again today and will be back on Monday.

Dan's mom was back from her trip today and I heard all about the places she visited. For lunch I had the Chicken and Corn soup again. It seems like we've been having that soup a lot lately.

I didn't have anything else for lunch but I did have some carrot sticks in the morning that I had brought in for a snack.

It got a little busier in the afternoon and there was a lot going on. The electrician came to see why the breaker kept getting tripped for the golf shop heater and he said that it was that the compressor was faulty. The AC guy came to look at it and he said we need to replace it. Greeeeeat. The usual.

I left work at 4 and headed home. Our brand new robotic pool vac had arrived and was waiting for me at the back door as I had instructed UPS! I opened it up and spent about 15 minutes assembling the rolling cart that it comes with. Once I was done with that, I set it into action!

It's pretty wild. It does the bottom of the pool and also crawls up the side of the pool, gets to the top, and then sometimes it just floats back down and other times it pushes itself off into the middle of the pool like it's doing some water aerobics or something! It did a good job and got a lot of those little tree things. They're terrible, though. They leave behind a brown stain even when they've just been on the bottom for less than a day! I really hope they stop falling soon!

After that, I headed inside and got showered up and ready for our evening. Dan got home and checked out the new vac and then headed to the gym.

The vacuum is so haphazard. It moved around in no particular pattern so I think it just knows that in 2.5 hours it will randomly cover the whole pool. It doesn't seem like there's any rhyme or reason to the path it takes and sometimes you get excited that it's headed for a big pile of crap and it just turns and goes the other way! I guess eventually it will make it!

Alec came over around 8:00 and we were just cleaning out the filter basket of the vacuum. We showed him the yard and then went inside to give him the grand tour of the house. He had never been here before, so we showed him everything and then we headed out to dinner. We went to Branchinelli's and it was about 9:00 so luckily there was no line!

We had the crazy older waitress and I like her a lot. She's wild, but that's all part of her charm. I ordered the lasagna but unfortunately she came back to tell me that they were out of lasagna. Booooooo! Alec ordered a three course meal with soup, a salad, and his entree. He went all out!

After dinner we went to ShopRite and picked out some drinks. Alec got some beers and then we headed home.

We had our drinks and then played a new game called Dominion. It's a game that has a bunch of cards and you win by collecting different cards, all of which have different purposes, and the game ends when certain piles are depleted. At that time, the person who has the most point cards is the winner. I know that makes absolutely no sense if you've never played it and I was really confused at first, but after a little while I got the hang of it and it was fun. The first time we played the "first game" setup and then the second game Alec changed it up a little and played with different sets of cards.

We had a lot to drink and we were up until about 4am! I can't believe I made it that far! After the second game we just hung out and we actually did two or three periscopes! One of them had about 50 viewers and then Dan did one and got about 300 viewers! I was really impressed by that!

We had a really fun night but at about 4am it was definitely time to get to sleep! Alec was our third overnight guest. It's nice having a real guest room!

This morning we woke up at about 10:30 so I'm still kinda tired! Alec had to get home to take his brother somewhere so he had to leave around 11. We hung out for a while in the morning and Alec perused the regrettable text messages he sent last night!

Now we're just getting ready to have Dan's work friends over this afternoon!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
