"jurassic world" or "what's in it for you"

Hey Journal!

Tonight we went to see Jurassic World! I was really looking forward to seeing this movie but I was a little unsure of how it would be. I wanted it to be great but how many movies can you make along these same lines. I mean, the premise of the movie was pretty predictable going in.... theme park with dinosaurs, dinosaur gets loose, eats people.

We wanted to go to Regal in Ronkonkoma but it wasn't playing until 11:00 and Lau felt that that was too late. She suggested Stony Brook at 10:15 so we aimed for that. Dan and I had a complimentary movie ticket card for there so we were going to stop there before eating dinner to get the tickets. Before we left, however, I wanted to check out Fandango. I am usually not a fan of them and I saw that they charge a $1.35 "convenience fee." I mean, it makes no sense to pay that if you're going to be at the movie theater anyway...why not just pick it up then!? I looked for coupon codes but found nothing worth it.

Then, I stumbled upon a great deal. For all Visa Signature card holders you could buy one get one free on Fandango! What a savings. I ran over to Dan's wallet (because mine was downstairs and I was upstairs) and pulled out his card. Sure enough, it said "Signature" under the Visa logo! So, I had to pay for 1 ticket with the 1.35 fee but divided in two it was about $6.50 per ticket! That's amazing... you can't get a movie ticket that cheap!

We saved our free ticket for another time. I didn't want to pass up this offer. Lau asked us to get her tickets, too but after finding this deal I told her about it and she did it as well.

Anyway, I kinda jumped the gun here.... This morning I headed to work and as soon as I got there I messaged Lau to set up our plans for the evening. We had spoken yesterday about seeing Jurassic World so we figured out the place and time. We also decided to go to the Lake Grove diner beforehand.

Work today was pretty good... I spent the day working on the 401k changes we're making. It really opens us up to save a lot more money. I had to make hand-outs with all of the plan details on it for everyone who participates to let them know how the change will affect them and what the potential benefits are.

--- The jackie moment

For lunch today my mom stopped by and brought me a pizza from Target. It hit the spot. Later on, Kathleen asked me about ordering lunch and I had to think for a minute because I couldn't figure out WHY I wasn't hungry!

At 5:00 I headed home and as soon as Dan got home he headed out to the gym. We put the vacuum into the pool again and started a cycle so that tomorrow the water will be nice and clear for our pool party with Dan and Jackie.

I bought the movie tickets while Dan was at the gym, which you already know all about, and then I headed we headed out to pick up the tickets. Lau and Ryan asked us to get their tickets, too since we were planning to stop at the theater but I texted her to let her know about the Buy one, Get one deal! We picked up our tickets and then walked across 347 to the diner to meet them for dinner. We were supposed to meet at 8:00 and we were about 5 minutes late.

I went back and forth on wether to get the open face turkey sandwich or something else. I decided against it because even though I love the open face turkey, it's soooo expensive. It's $18 and really the only thing I was craving was the turkey and gravy on white bread. It comes with all kinds of soups and sides and things I wasn't really in the mood for.

I settled on French Toast instead and it was good! So, we ate and caught up on the happenings in each other's lives since the last time we hung out! It had been a while.... it was the night we went to the pizza place with Jen B and JC! Dan wasn't even there that night, but neither was Ryan, actually.

When we finished eating we headed over to Waldbaum's. We each got some candy for the movie. I got a box of Raisinettes. Lau was conflicted and wanted to get the circus peanuts or the spearmint leaves, but she held back! (Actually, we were discussing WHO actually buys those things and it turns out Lau and her family are big fans!)

When we got to the theater, Lau and Ryan got their tickets from the machine and then we headed in. The previous movie wasn't finished yet and so we had to wait outside. When it finished, they went in to clean and a bunch of us were waiting outside. It was so weird because new people would come and walk past all of us who were waiting and just go inside. Like, Really? Why do you think we're all out here!? They'd go in and about a minute later they'd come out. The walk of shame.

This next part is so weird... First, let me preface it by saying that I don't even LIKE Junior Mints. I have and had no desire to eat them and I was totally joking. I was also leaning against a wall and making no moves that could be construed as acting on what I'm about to tell you I said. This girl who worked at the theater was pushing a cart with a bunch of boxes of Junior Mints on it and as she passed by, I said to Dan QUIETLY, "We should hijack the Junior Mint cart." I mean, she heard it, but it wasn't said in an obnoxious teenager way, either. I was leaning calmly against the wall... not at all looking serious about this! And she replied, "That's really not cool...."

I think she was having a bad day or something. Maybe unhappy about her candy cart pushing life. I don't know.

So, we got in and the movie started at 10:15... or more like 10:45 after all the previews. It was good! I mean, it's nothing compared to the ORIGINAL Jurassic Park but for a comeback 20 years later I thought it was good. I mean, for a movie where you know almost exactly what's going to happen... DINOSAURS ARE GOING TO GET LOOSE AND EAT PEOPLE... It held my attention and I really enjoyed it. I also liked the one who played the older kid in the movie. (He's 20 in real life, in case you were wondering.)

Oh and I forgot to mention, Lau was telling us about one of the kids she works with and not 5 minutes later, he came out of the theater next to us while we were waiting to go in! What were the chances!?

When the movie was over we said goodnight and walked to our cars which were all the way over by Waldbaum's!

On the way home, there was something going on on Main Street. We stopped the car and there was a guy laying in the middle of the street and a bunch of people surrounding him. I don't know what happened but it was a dangerous place for them all to be standing because another car could have come and plowed them all down! They waved us to go around but we stayed stopped to protect them from another car that might come up. We were there about 30 seconds and then the police came from both directions. They blocked off the road and then we headed on our way home. I wonder what happened.

Now we are home and about to head to bed! It was a nice Friday night and I'm looking forward to a fun and exciting but not overly jam-packed weekend!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
