"fredator" or "the food was terrible...box it up, i'm taking it home"

Hey Journal!

Well, today was a packed day of fun around Long Island with Fred! We got up at 9:30 and, as planned, we went to see Norm play his tunes at the bagel store. We left the house at about 9:20, picked up Kristen, and then we were on our way.

Norm was playing when we arrived and I secured a table for us. Dan, Fred, and Kristen got the bagels and then when Norm took his break he came over to talk to us. He played a French song for Fred and Fred loved it. He knew it and said it was a better choice than the song he had planned to request.

We hung out there for a long time today and talked to Norm again on his next break. He and Fred chatted about Quebecois business and surprisingly, Norm said that while he can still understand everything Fred says in French, it's hard for him to come up with the words to answer back quickly. That's the equivalent of us, today, leaving the US and moving to Germany, learning German and then in 30 year, not remembering English! I can't fathom that... it's so weird to think that that could happen!

While we were conversing, this weird guy with a peace necklace and the scariest talon fingernails came over to request Somewhere Over the Rainbow... but instead of asking for the song, he said something like, "Chance of rainbows today?" It was very creepy!

After breakfast we dropped Kristen off at home and then we went to Bottle Bargains because Fred wanted to get some wine. There are two types that he really likes and in Quebec it's over $18 a bottle and here it was just $9! Nice! He found them and purchased them to bring home, although he wound up drinking two of them tonight, instead!

Fred suggested that we go to a brewery and the only one we know of is the Blue Point Brewery. We went there and surprisingly, when we pulled up, he said we had taken him here before! I had totally forgotten. We got the free beers and then we were just in time for the tour! I was excited about that because we've tried to take the tour before but for one reason or another we've never managed to be able to! Finally we did.

The woman who gave the tour was incredible. She had the most fun and wild personality but was super weird and crazy. I loved it. She explained a little about the history of the company and showed us the beans and the hops that they use to make the beer. I don't like beer, but I did try some of the beans. One crazy looking man took a mouthful of hops. I don't know, he seemed to enjoy it.

After that we left and on our way back we stopped at Home Depot to get bird spikes. I've had it with them. I keep evicting them and they keep coming back. I pester them, I scare them away, I spray them with the hose and they don't care. They go away for a little while but they return to shit all over the place! So, I got the spikes and hopefully that'll keep them at bay! They don't completely cover the area so we may need to go back and get more!

Next, we went to Whisper Vineyards. Dan and I had never been there before. It's kinda weird. I mean, I don't like wine so I don't really have an opinion on that but Dan and Fred got some and they didn't really like it. They were also REALLY expensive for the little sips they gave you. The Blue Point Brewery is a much better value! ha!

They had live music but it was really a woman singing over a CD of Alanis Morissette. Kinda lame. She wasn't even good. Definitely not Norm quality.

After that, we headed home and it was nap time for Fred. No trip where we see Fred would be complete without at least one nap! He loves to get his midday sleep!

I did some random stuff around the house, cleaned up a little, and read the Smithtown News. It was actually nice to have that little downtime to get caught up on stuff I would have done.

Once Fred got up, showered, and was ready to go it was about 6:00. Tonight we went to Lotus East for dinner since we didn't go last night. We picked up Kristen and then headed out to the restaurant.

We had a good time and the food was good as always. However, the man sitting at the table next to us did not agree. He called over the waiter and told him that the food was terrible and it was the worst chinese food he had ever eaten. The manager woman came over and he told her the same. They all offered him something different but he wanted nothing. He was very unhappy. After he complain and complained about everything, he said "box it up, I'm taking it home!" WHAT? I mean, if you are going to make that big of a deal about how terrible the food was, would you really take it home?! And why? I mean, you have to commit to your rant if you do that!

It was so weird. "This food is terrible. I eat chinese food everywhere and I've never had anything so bad! Wrap it up... I'm taking it home."

On our way home we dropped Kristen off to pick up her car and then we came back to our house for a drinking night. We made some Daiquiris and Dan and Fred had some of the wine that Fred bought earlier.

Re came over and we had a fun time! We conversed for a while and then we listened to the top songs of each year from 1998 - 2003! It was wold. 2000 is really the BEST year with hit after hit! I didn't realize just how amazing a year it was for music!

Re left around 12:00 and Kristen stayed until about 1:00. We finished with some Backstreet Boys singalong! Now we're off to bed and getting up early tomorrow to get to Sagamore Hill to tour the newly re-opened home of Teddy Roosevelt!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
