"labor day weekend frenzy"

Hey Journal!

When I woke up this morning, I was surprised to see a text message from Re saying that she and Rob had broken up! I texted her briefly about it but made plans to go out to lunch later in the afternoon.

Kristen came to pick us up to go to Relish for Saturday breakfast at 9:00! We made our triumphant return there after it was closed last weekend for "vacation" and "painting." The only thing I noticed had been painted was the front door! I guess they did more vacationing than they did painting!

We had one of the waiters who we always have when we go there but today he was acting so strange! He just rambled off a bunch of questions to us, took our order from really far away... I don't know... it just seemed like he was a mess today. Usually he's so much more... normal! Kristen thinks he was probably hung over- which would made sense!

Breakfast was good and afterwards we went to the bluff to take a look across the sound. It was so clear out and you could see Connecticut so well! It looked so much closer than it really is!

Next, we went to see Kristen's new apartment for the first time! She just got the keys in the first and has only moved a few boxes in so far. We went over there and checked it out. It was nice... It's so much smaller than her house so she's going to have to figure out what to do with all of her STUFF, but otherwise it's a nice apartment in a nice location!

While we were there, we heard someone in the hallway knocking on a door yelling, "BAGELS! SAUSAGE AND BAGELS!" And we froze in our tracks! I looked out the peep hole and didn't see anyone! Dan texted JC (who lives in the apartment across the hall) to see if she was home -- and he asked if she had heard that person. Turns out it was Gil's parents coming with....sausage... and bagels! lol

After that we planned to go over and say hi to my grandparents. On the way there, we decided to go to Price Club and get some of those Tate's Cookies to bring with us. They were so good when Julio got them the other day that we figured it would be good to get some for us and share the rest so we didn't eat them all!

On the way to Price Club, Dan started complaining that his eye had been bothering him since yesterday morning and that it was red and itchy. We called the eye doctor to see if they had any emergency appointments today. It was 11:25 when we called and she said they were closing at 11:30. When he told the receptionist that he had a problem with his eye, she told him to come right away! We were over by the mall so we turned around and headed right there. We got there in about 5 minutes.

The doctor was really nice and she took him in and figure out that he has an infection in his eye. It isn't the pink eye... no conjunction junction! She prescribed him some eye drops and told him that he couldn't wear his contact lenses until next Saturday. Still, he has to go back next week for her to make sure it's all cleared up before he wears them.

We were finished a little after 12 and then headed to Price Club, got the cookies, and then got back to our plan for the day. When we arrived, my Grandma and Grandpa weren't home but we checked out the new front door and side door. My mom was there and we hung around for about 20 minutes or so before heading to Target to pick up Dan's prescription.

As we were about to leave, my Grandma and Grandpa pulled up in the driveway and so we got out of the car and talked to them for a few minutes before we left.

Next, we hurried to Target, got the prescription, and then headed to lunch with Re. We planned to meet at 2:00 at the Panera over in Sayville. We got there a little late because we accidentally passed the exit we were supposed to have taken.

When we walked in, we got on line and the people in front of us on line were one of Re's students and her mother! Re talked to them for a bit and then we got our food and settled in to hear the whole story of the breakup!

It really seems to me, from hearing what happened, that they both felt that this wasn't the right fit for them and that they weren't sure that the relationship was ever going to progress further than the point they were at right now. I think she is more upset about the prospect of having to start all over again- going on potentially awkward dates, and all of that.

After lunch, Re went to Jen B's and we went to make a payment for our wedding. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make a payment for a variety of reasons but they said they would call Dan to get it sorted out later in the week.

When we were done there we headed back to Jen B's house which was basically back to where the Panera was -- it's right around the corner! Re had gone over there to take her mind off of the breakup and so we went to hang out. Jen B had prepared a selection of movies for Re and when I arrived they were watching Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. What a classic. After that we watched Emperor's New Groove!

Re left in the middle of that one, though, and said she just wanted to go home and be alone.

Dan and I left shortly after and when we got home we did a 2.5 mile walk and then came home, showered, and I did some laundry.

We relaxed for a little while and then, later on, we went out to Kohl's because Dan needed new pants for work next week. He found a pair that looked really nice but they didn't have the waist size he needed! They had piles and piles of them but none in 36. I looked on their App and none of the stores on Long Island had them.

I checked the Penney's app and they had them in the Bay Shore store so we're going to go there tomorrow, on the way to the Extravaganza, to get them!

On the way home we stopped at the Commack Post Office to mail some things that Dan was supposed to mail yesterday! He thought he had mailed them last night on his way to the gym and then I saw them sitting on the bed this morning!

Alas, it's been a pretty busy day.... lots of craziness going on. Tomorrow's not going to be any calmer with the event of the year! Better rest up...

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
