"productive day"

Hey Journal!

Wow! What a busy and productive day we had today! I have to say that yesterday I was starting to get a little worried. I felt like there was so much that we still hadn't finished for the wedding and I was worried that we wouldn't have enough time to get it all done.

Today we got up early and really managed to get all of the big stuff crossed off our list. I definitely feel so much better now!

We had set our alarm for 8:15 because Kristen was coming to pick us up for breakfast at 8:30. We wanted to get an early start because of all that we had to do. I had woken up at about 7:30 for some reason and but able to get back to sleep pretty quickly. Then, at about 7:45, Jackie called me because there was a computer meltdown at work!

The power had flickered and the computer system went down completely. UGH! This is the third time this has happened in a week and I didn't even realize how fragile our power was. Does it really go out that often!? It must just be a momentary flicker, though, because none of the other machines restarted and the security camera screen wasn't reset. Weird.

I had to go up to work to fix the problem but I told them I couldn't get there until about 10:00. I called the Golf Shop and told them to write everything down and ring it up later in the day.

So, after that I couldn't get back to sleep so I got up and got started on things I had to do for the day.

Kristen came over at 8:30 and, a little before that, Dan and I put on our suits for the big day! We wanted to make sure everything fit perfectly and we wanted to get Kristen's opinions on the ties we had purchased last night at Macy's. We wanted to get her opinion on the ones we already got and see if we needed to keep looking today while we were at the store.

We had each gotten a red option and a blue option last night and we both decided that we liked the blue one better. Kristen agreed, so we're settled on the blue ties. That was a big relief because I didn't want to have to go tie shopping on top of all the other stuff today.

So, we changed back into our "street clothes" and went to Relish for breakfast. I got the Egg Special, of course, and we had an enjoyable breakfast. The past several times we've gone we've been seated on the right side of the restaurant (which we don't like as much as the other section) and, to make thing worse, we've been put in the FIRST booth which is really annoying. The hostess tried to seat us there again today but we asked if we could move to another one that was empty. It's so much nicer being away from the front door.

After breakfast we went to Staples in Commack. I had to buy a battery backup to replace the one that died at work. Luckily that was a pretty quick stop and we back on the road on the way to the golf course. This was an unplanned stop for the day but it worked out perfectly. We stopped there, it took me about 15 minutes to remove the old backup and install the new one. Everyone was going crazy because the computers were done and they were all happy when they came back up!

While we were there, I showed Kristen the wedding program and we printed some of them out so I won't have to do as many next week!

Next up, we went to the DJs house to drop off the CDs with some of the music for the wedding. For the most part we just had to give him the names of songs we wanted him to play but we had some special selections for the seating music, the processional, and the recessional...so we wanted to give them to him in advance. He said he's going to load them onto his computer and stuff to get them prepared.

When we arrived, his wife and son were walking into the house and then Dan came up to the door with the envelope. He left it in the mailbox and as we were pulling away his wife came to the door and waved to us. We rolled down the windows and she said that he son said, "Some weird guy is coming to the door!" haha. I don't know why she wanted to tell us that... but it was funny.

Our next stop was Ikea! A few weeks ago we purchased all of those jars for our favors but then we had to abandon that idea because the personalized M&Ms would have been way too expensive! So, now we had to return them. Of course, I was dreading the return process at Ikea. They make you take a number like a deli counter and then you can sit until your number is called. That isn't a bad idea but the people who work at the return area are so infuriating! First, they don't have enough people working. Second, the returns take SOO LONG TO PROCESS! We watched as one woman went up to return one little lantern-like object. She was at the register for like 5 minutes! What the heck!? When you return something at Target it LITERALLY takes about 10 seconds! They scan the receipt, scan the item, DONE! Have a nice day!

Then, perhaps the most frustrating thing is that after each return the cashier just kinda meanders around, moved things on the shelf behind her, and looks around as if she has nothing to do. Kristen said it best... it's like they're trying to look busy...as in, what they would do if there were no customers but they didn't want to make it like they had no work to do. Meanwhile, there's a huge line of people waiting. You can rearrange the customer service desk when no customers are waiting to be helped! Ugh. I hate Ikea returns.

Anyway, we got our money back and then we headed to the car! Our next stop was the Roosevelt Field Mall!

We really did a tour of the state parkways today! We were one the Northern, Southern, Sagtikos, Sunken Meadow, Meadowbrook, and Bethpage Parkway! Too bad we didn't hit Wantagh, Ocean, or Robert Moses!

We parked in the parking garage and entered near the Dick's Sporting Goods. They had their Santa set up but it was really weird. It looked like he was inside an ice cave...or something that looked like a surfing wave! We thought it was weird but didn't get it too much though until later on in the day when I was checking facebook and like EVERYONE was complaining about it. Weird.

So, first we went to Macy's to return the two ties from last night that we decided not to use. We did that, and then went over to look at the suits again. We were told that they don't carry the vests in the stores, which is why we ordered Dan's vest online. He got the 40L which was the same size as his suit jacket but it was a little too small for him.

It looked alright when the jacket was on but it looked too small when he took the jacket off...so, we ordered another one online but we're not sure if it will be delivered in time. We had an emergency backup plan which was, if it didn't come in time, Dan would wear the vest under the jacket for the pictures and the ceremony and then take it off when he took the jacket off later.

We looked around at their suit area and they had ONE vest randomly sitting there mixed in with the suit jackets. It was clearly an online return. We checked out the size and it was a 42L!! Exactly what we were looking for. That was amazing luck. We bought it there and it was more expensive than it had been online even with an in-store coupon. That's no problem, though.... we'll just return it when the other one comes!

Kristen looked for a dress for the wedding while we were in Macy's but she wasn't thrilled with their selection.

I was getting really tired of shopping at this point even though we hadn't been at the mall for TOO long. We went to Aldo and a couple of other shoe stores to see what they had but I didn't see anything I really liked.

Dan's cousin was working another store called "Call it Spring" and so we decided to check that out. We had never even heard of it before but they had some REALLY nice shoes. Their shoes were much fancier than the ones we had looked at in Penneys and Macy's and, surprisingly, they were actually cheaper. Dan picked out a pair but they didn't have them in his size, 13. I picked one out and tried it on and it was perfect. Dan picked a second shoe out, which happened to be the same one I had. He liked it a lot, so we wound up getting them same shoe!

I was really done with the mall by this point so we headed out and we had really accomplished all of the things we needed to get done there! I wa very happy about that.

We were all pretty hungry now so we decided to go to Chipotle for lunch. We were heading over to Nesconset next, so we went to the one in Hauppauge just off of the expressway!

Another thing that worked out perfectly... I had to drop off two FedEx envelopes and I was keeping my eyes open for a drop box. Kristen noticed, just as we pulled into Chipotle, that there was a FedEx office store! Wahoo!

Chipotle was busy but not as crazy as usual. The line went to the back of the store but thankfully it didn't wrap around all the way to the door like it usually does!

After that we headed over to the flower place in Nesconset to order the corsages and boutineers. (Wow, I'm surprised spell check didn't flag either of those... I'm still not 100% sure they're correct!)

We didn't know what we really needed but the girl there was very nice and walked us through the whole thing. She told us the different kinds you could get and that most people get white roses with different color ribbons. Thankfully there was no choice to be made with the boutineers so that made things easy!

Our last stop on this big day was to stop over and help my grandma change the filter on her air conditioner vent. She was trying to install the new one but it wouldn't stay up. The little clips that usually hold it in place were bent in, so I just took a screwdriver and bent them out so that it would hold it up while I closed the cover.

We got home and Kristen came in for a little while. I had to give her one of my mom's name change cards and also wanted to show her something else (though I can't remember what that was now!)

Dan and I needed a little break so we watched HTGAWM and then Shark Tank. Shortly after that, Dan went to the gym. When he got home, we had to get right back on our wedding plans!

We went to Michael's and then Target. We wanted to get this stuff called TULE. Linda had told me about it and said we could use it to wrap up the shot glass favors. We got a roll of it and then went over to Target to get some Hershey's Kisses to put inside. We bought two bags but may need to get some more tomorrow.

While we were at Target we stocked up on some food we needed. We haven't been shopping for food in a LONG TIME and our cupboards are bare! We got a lot of frozen pizzas, milk, and other things.

When we got home, we decided that we aren't going to use the Tule because the shot glasses look good on their own -- adding that will hide our names which are printed on it. We're just going to put 5 Kisses in each one! It'll be easier to pack them like that, too.

We got ready for bed after that and now we're gonna get to sleep!

All in all, it was a really productive day and we were able to get so much more done than I had expected. There are still a lot of things we have to do but I think we've gotten some of the big ones out of the way and I feel so much better about our ability to get everything finished. Alas, I have to get to bed now because we're continuing our mission in the morning!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
