"acupunctured" or "cupping"

Hey Journal!

Well, today I went to have my first ever visit to an acupuncturist. It was quite the experience. I woke up today with far less pain than I have been having recently and was really happy about that. I still kept my acupuncture appointment because I wanted to give it a shot and because even though I was feeling better this morning, there's no guarantee that it will last.

So, I arrived at about 9:45 and they brought me in shortly after. The doctor was very nice. She was Chinese and had a thick Chinese accent. I didn't really understand everything she said to me. I explained the pain and she figured out what she was going to do. Then, she told me to put on this little gown thing. It was so stupid because I took off my paints, left my underwear on, put on the gown and then layed on the table. The gown was only covering my legs. When she came in, she moved it over to expose the legs and my underwear, so the gown was now only covering my top half and I had my shirt on anyway! SheesH!

She took some needles and poked them into where the pain generally comes from. She said she saw a "mark" there, so I'm not sure what she saw... but maybe it's a good sign. They put a few needles there and then a couple more going down my leg. One by my knee, and one by my foot.

When she was done, she said they would be in for about 30 minutes and then she left the room. Her associate came in a minute or two later with something that looked like a cigar with Chinese writing on it. It looked red at the tip and was burning. She waved it around by the needles and it felt like a warm sensation. I don't know what the exact purpose of this was, but it felt warm and soothing so that's a good thing.

Next, the put this heat lamp type thing near the needles and left it on for the rest of the time. She told me to "relax and listen to my music." The music was very similar to some selections from ReChi.

I tried to move my toes while this was going on and it made quite the pain in my leg... near the needle by my foot! I learned NOT to try to wiggle my toes.

When all this was done, they removed the needles and then announced that they would try CUPPING. Yes, I would get the Michael Phelps, Olympic swimmer treatment! They took two fishbowls, one larger than the other, and watching this be done was so scary not knowing what was going on. She took a clamp, picked up a cotton swab, lit the cotton swab on fire, and then put it in the bowl! She then took it out and quickly applied the bowl to my leg which sucked in my skiN! Wild! I had no idea what was happening!

I was kinda taken aback by it all. It was a little uncomfortable at first but it felt better as it went on.

When I was done, I have to say I was feeling pretty good.

I got to work around 11:30 and I was able to sit at my desk and I had minimal pain all day long. Every time I stand up, I have almost no pain at all... .when I'm sitting it's a little nuisance, and I still want it to go away. I'm supposed to go back on Wednesday for some more fun with needles and things.

Anyway, work today was kinda quiet. Jackie was in because there was a funeral luncheon and so she gave me the payroll early. I did that all today which was nice and I got a few other random things done. The day went by quickly and Dan's dad left around 3:30. I stayed till 4:15 and then headed out myself.

When I got home, I watched some TV and Dan and I went over some money stuff. We're trying to figure out the best plan to save for retirement! It's quite complicated but I think we came up with some good ideas.

Dan went out for a walk and I took my bath/shower. When Dan got back, he got ready and we watched 24 and American Crime!

Now we're off to bed! Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
